Burpengary and Burpengary East together hold a real mix: older homes and acreage alongside estate housing that has gone up steadily over the last few decades. For smoke alarms the relevant difference is not the postcode, it is the number of bedrooms and storeys — which on larger Burpengary blocks is often more than the standard three-bed single-storey case.
Why the alarm count matters here more than most
The regulation requires an alarm in every bedroom, in the hallways connecting them, and on every storey — including storeys with no bedrooms at all. A four-bedroom two-storey home on an acreage block can need six or seven alarms where a small unit needs two.

The 2017 line
Interconnected photoelectric alarms became compulsory for new builds and substantial renovations from 1 January 2017. Estate homes finished after that date should already have them; anything earlier almost certainly does not, however new it feels.
