Smoke alarm compliance in Caboolture
Caboolture has some of the widest range of housing ages in Moreton Bay, which makes it the suburb where what your house needs varies most. Here is how to work out where you sit.
An unusually wide spread of housing
Caboolture is a long-established town rather than a single estate, and its housing reflects that — older homes around the original centre, decades of infill, and newer estates on the edges. The practical effect is that two Caboolture houses a few streets apart can need completely different work.
The dividing line is 1 January 2017. Interconnected photoelectric alarms became compulsory for new builds and substantial renovations from that date. Before it, they were not required and are rarely present.
| From | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 1 Jan 2017 | New homes, and existing homes undergoing substantial renovation |
| 1 Jan 2022 | Any home when it is sold or leased |
| 1 Jan 2027 | Every remaining home in Queensland — including the one you live in |
Working out which side you are on
Older Caboolture home, never substantially renovated
Full upgrade needed. Usually four alarms for a three-bedroom single storey. No rewiring required — sealed ten-year units link wirelessly.
Newer estate home, built since 2017
Check rather than assume. Interconnection was required at build, but alarms also have to be under ten years old.
Renovated, sold or leased since 2022
Should already be compliant. If it was skipped at the time, you are non-compliant today, not in 2027.
What it costs
Caboolture is ten minutes from home base in Morayfield, so there is no travel premium. Full pricing and the complete Queensland rules.
Rentals and sales
Caboolture has a lot of rental stock. If you own or manage it, your obligation started in 2022 and recurs before every tenancy — see landlords. Selling? Do it before you list, not under a settlement deadline.
Not sure where you stand?
Ring or send a text with your address and how many bedrooms. I'll tell you straight what your place needs, what it costs, and whether it's worth doing before January.
